desktop pictures settings

I just spent $65.00 to find out that when you set the desktop pictures to change every 5 seconds it causes the pointer to act erratically. Why would apple keep a feature that screws up the operation of the computer?

G-4 AGP 450, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

That feature may be intended for computers with a faster processor; changing the desktop picture appears to take a bit of resources, and if done frequently, it and similar operations will cause the computer to be sluggish with graphic-related tasks.
