Customizing the "date modified" format in folder windows

Ever since I did a Daylight Savings Time software update, the "date modified" format for each file in all my folder windows has changed. The format for every file writes out the month, day, year and time. These characters occupy too much of the window. I can narrow the column, but I would rather change the format to write the date with slashes, for example, 1/1/07. Can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks.

Thanks, roam. In System Prefs/International/Formats I can edit the date format, but there are still apparently 3 forms that show in the window. I want the system to use the short (bottom) form with slashes, but it insists on using the long (upper) form. How can I switch which form of the date is used? Also, how can I stop showing the time?

Thanks again!

Hi mbklein44

Before you did that Daylight Savings Time software update, in "Folder Windows" which I take you mean List view in Finder, were your dates formats short dates like 1/1/07, or were they long dates and now you have just noticed them.
I ask because my dates have always shown in long format, and I didn't do the Daylight Savings Time update.

Unfortunately I don't know how to change the long date format, in either List view or Column View in the Finder's date display. Sorry.

Thanks again. It is possible that my dates were always in long format. Here is what I know for sure. Since my DST update, the allocated date/time column width I use for list view in Finder no longer is enough to hold the date and time. On longer dates I get a bunch of dots that obscure part of the date. Something has changed. It's not the worst thing (I can enlarge the column width!), but I like to use these things as a learning opportunity.

When you enlarge the column width doesn't it stick, so that it remains the same next time you open that Folder in Finder. I stretched mine out to show the widest date to get rid of the dots, in that instance it was a December date, and the new column width remains after I close Finder and reopen it.
By selecting Show View Options, when in that Finder window you can choose: This Window Only, or All Windows. I hope that helps.
