Why is my Virtual PC soooo slow

Hi,

Some time ago I bought Virtual PC 7 and now I'm running Windows XP on it. But it is soooooo slow, it is impossible to work. Even Word and Excel are unusuable.

I'm using a PowerMac G5 QUAD (not an Intel) with 2,5 GB RAM. I have assigned 512MB to the Virtual PC.

I know that an emulated system is not as fast as a real one but this is not bearable. A system start takes about 5-7 Minutes ⚠. I already tried to re-install Windows.

Any advice?

Hi DaddyPaycheck;

I disagree with your reasoning that we should upgrade to an Intel Mac and Windows. So far I have yet to see a valid reason to install Windows on a Mac and in my opinion M$ Office is certainly the poorest excuse for that upgrade. I currently use a PowerMac Quad and when I get my tax return I will be getting a MacBook Pro. I will never have an M$ code on either of these.

In my opinion there are plenty of applications that work much better under OS X then anything M$ has.

Hello Again! Yes, a KVM switch allows several computers to be connected using one keyboard and monitor. I have the same problem you have needing some PC only apps once in a while. I have used several configurations utilizing Macs and pc's with the KVM. Currently I'm using 4 pc's connected via the kvm. One thing to keep in mind is that if you're gonna use a mac with a pc on a kvm then get a usb type kvm so you can use a usb keyborad and mouse. Most pc's have PSII keyboard and mouse inputs but most newer ones also have usb ports. Some pc's get fussy if they don't have a PSII keyboard and mouse connected at startup. To get around this issue I just leave a PSII keyboard and mouse connected to them and sitting on top of them out of the way. Tom

Hi DaddyPaycheck;

I have to use a Windoze laptop for work. Luckily they have deskside support so whenever anything goes wrong with the laptop I just give it to them and say; Handle it! Handle it!

Since this experience with anything from M$ has left a bad taste in my mouth, I certainly don't want to repeat it with my computer at home. So far I have not found any reason to change my mind on M$ since it offers nothing I want or need.
