Runtime Error!

I am operating on Windows XP. When I attempt to open my itunes it says, "Application must close". Runtime Error! box appears and it says, "This application has requested runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information." The Heading on the top of the Pop up window reads, "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".
Has anyone encountered this and knows how to fix it?
