Basic Questions

1. Are there any guidelines for image dimensions or resolution that will
look best when printing a card from iPhoto?

2. Is there a way to add content to the back side of a card?

3. Is there a way to save a card so I can bring it to another mac to print from?

4. Are there additional themes or designs available for download?

Thanks!

Mark:

1 0 Just keep the image the largest you can. The cards are laid out for a 4:3 size ratio and most digital cameras produce files in that ratio. So if you're coming from a digital camera and the image is OK as it is, that's the best scenario.

2 - There is a way but it would require an external editor like Photoshop Elements and converting each side of the card to a jpg file that can be edited. Tutorial #8 tells you how to create the jpgs and print using Photoshop Elements. Just add to that adding text to either page with PSE.

3 - Yes. In the card mode do a Preview and then save the card as a pdf file. Or start to print the card and under the PDF menu in the print window select the Save as PDF option. Then transfer the pdf file to the other Mac to print.

4 - No.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
