I too am having problems burning my songs to discs. I start the process and shortly into the process it "cancels the disc burn" and I get the error message 4251. Any suggestions?

Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

is there any particular reason why you don't have service pack
2 installed?
if not, try installing that. the latest security updates are only available for SP2, too, so head to Microsoft update afterwards to stock up on anything you''re behind on.
do you still get the 4251 with your Windows fully updated?
Yes unfortunately I still get error 4251
Here is the cd diagnostic from the last attempted burn after downloading service pack 2

sorry about the delay. (the Dell drivers and downloads site was offline last night, which put a damper on the next phase of investigations.)
there is a slight additional hiccup, though:
Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 4600i
i know where the 4600 downloads page is, and i know where the 4600
C page is ... but i'm not sure if that "i" is indicating if it's a different model from those two.
so let's go to Plan B with locating your downloads and drivers page.
could you please go to the following Dell page and enter your Service tag into the
Option 1: Use a Service Tag box:
check to see if your
Dell Dimension System BIOS is up to date.
check to see if your driver for your
Intel Chipset is up to date.
there looks to be a newer (R902) firmware available for your Samsung
SW-252S HH 48X32 CD-RW. Dell says it "resolves a drive detection issue where the drive eventually becomes non-functional" ... so
definitely make sure you're up to date with that one.
check to see if your
Intel 82865G Graphics Controller is up to date.
once you're satisfied you're up to date, try running your diagnostics again. has that message you're getting next to your
hard drive in the itunes diagnostics gone away? for the last two sets of diagnostics, we've been getting a consistent:
DiskDrive, ST340014A Could not open CD handler, 5. Problem with installation of drive in Windows or drive contains copy protected CD
I made sure I was up to date and tried to burn a cd. I actually thought it was going to be successful-got to the last 30 seconds or so and I got the 4251 error again. I included the diagnostic from that last burn although I don't think it was any different.
Could not open CD handler, 5. Problem with installation of drive in Windows or drive contains copy protected CD. Do you have a suggestion about why I keep getting the above message?

I am having the same problem except mine says 'The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280).' What is this?! I have tried everything that anyone has said to do but nothing works.
I am also having problems with burning audio CDs. I get the same error 4251 that others have reported in this discussion. My system worked up until about a month ago, then started producing these messages on every attempt to burn. It also makes the CD unusable, so this costs me money. I can burn CDs from Windows Media Player, and can also burn video DVDs successfully.
Any help I can get (there is none from Apple as I don't have an iPod) will be appreciated. I have checked everything the discussion group suggests, and have spoken with Apple support, who cannot answer my specific questions.
