Help! Japanese ID3 Tag messed up. Convert ID3 grayed out?

Hi, I was importing a CD with Japanese words (some artists & titles) but the words appeared as boxes.

When I tried to change the info in the song, the same square boxes appeared when I cut & paste the info from CDDB.

Itunes help said to "Convert ID3 tags" under the Advanced tab but my "Convert ID3 Tags" is grayed out. What's with this?

How do I get the right Japanese words into the song info?

Compaq NC4010 Laptop, Windows XP

do you have supplemental language support enabled on your PC? if not, the following document may be of some help:

Hi thanks a bunch! That worked out great.

My "Convert ID3 Tags" is still grayed out but I don't need it now, cos the words appear as it is supposed to.

This was really helpful cos I asked around and most people were trying to help with the itunes settings instead which obviously didnt work.
