Messages vanish from Inbox and Sent Mail

I am running the Mac Mail software with several Mail accounts set up on the program. My mac.com mail is sending and receiving fine, but after a few minutes the messages will disappear both from my Mail program and also from the Mail program on the server. Can anyone help here?

Dear Allan
I am accessing the Mac account as a .Mac type (the default). Is this not correct?

I am also accessing my .Mac account through Spamarrest.

However, all of this was working fine until recently, when the Mail programme (AND the .Mac account on the server) are both losing the sent and received emails, having successfully received them. It is like as if they just keep them for a period of a few minutes and then lose them. Strange.

There isn't a correct way to access a .Mac account, only the way that you prefer.

A .Mac type account with the Mail application is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.

You can access a .Mac account as the following account types with Mail:

.Mac
IMAP
POP

And as the following account types with other email clients such as the Mail.app on your Mac or with an email client on a PC running Windows.

IMAP
POP

I access my .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Mail and as an IMAP account with Outlook Express on my notebook running Windows XP at work.

There is no setting to automatically remove received messages from the server with a .Mac type account or IMAP account with Mail or with any email client such as Mail. The account's Inbox along with any other server stored mailboxes with Mail are synchronized with server which is standard behavior with an IMAP account.

The only wild card in your situation is accessing your .Mac account through Spamarrest. Can you turn off Spamarrest or disable it temporarily to see of the same occurs with Spamarrest out of the picture?

Allan, Removing my Mac account from the Spamarrest protection would seem to have solved the problem. Emails are now remaining both on the Mail program and also on the .Mac server. It's a pity that I cannot benefit from the Spamarrest protection which i find to be very good on my other email accounts. On the other hand, I have not received a single spam on the Mac account since removing the protection. Thanks for your help on this.
