Sudden Motion Sensor

Hey all,

I'm contemplating upgrading my HD in my MBP and am wondering if the Sudden Motion Sensor is a Hard Drive feature, or a MBP feature.

In other words, do I need a "special" hd for the SMS to keep working?

It's functionality that's provided by your MBP. There's nothing to choose from in particular, however, do NOT use a Western Digital Scorpio. There's similar functionality in these drives that causes crashing or hanging.

Why not in the case of a Scorpio drive-disable the sudden motion sensor as per:

Hello,
The early WD drives did have issues with Apple's SMS. The new drives do not have that issue.
