http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_(file_format)

"It appears that you can just rename the MOD file extension to MPG as it appears to be a standard MPEG-2 file. Then the file is compatible with players and other software tools that can read Dolby AC-3 Surround Stereo encoding."

Otherwise download and use VLC. If that can't open them, then you'll probably have to resave them on the PC to a different file format:

Do I have to rename my .MOD to something else? I just downoaded MPEG streamclip and purchased the MPEG 2 playback component of Apple. Is that it? Because when I click on my .MOD file I still receive an error message. Should I be doing something else?

hi i can only tell you what I did and that it worked - I opened mpegclipstream went to File and Open Files - clicked on the file I wanted to open and opened it and it worked - what did not work was clicking on the file independently of mpegclipstream - the file must be opened through mpegclipstream - hope this helps

Ok, so I know what my problem is. My mpeg 2 playback component is not installed. But, I can't seem to find it. I apologize, I'm a novice at the Mac and am trying to learn as I go. 🙂 So I kind of need step by step instruction.

I purchased the mpeg 2 playback component BUT where do I go to install it? There is no link on my email on where I can get the component to install it. I just purchased it. Any assistance you can provide would be great! Thanks so much!
