exporting OMF without embeded media?

Does anyone know if there is a way to export an OMF file from FCP which does not contain embeded audio media and only data referring to the original source media?
Thanks for any pointers,

have you tried using media manager to 'make offline' - create a copy of your sequence without the media, then exporting an OMF of that offline sequence?

Sorry, unlike Avid there is no way to export and OMF without embeding the audio. There is only one setting for OMF export. You should check out Automatic Duck

www.automaticduck.com

they have a number of more advanced export options.

Just to fill in a little bit about the advantages of automatic duck. Automatic Duck will preserve audio levels (aka "automation) which an omf export will not. It also (in my limited experience) works flawlessly. I used it to export an extremely complex project for an audio mix. If I remember correctly, there were a few errors which were clearly reported and simple to fix within fcp and then reexport. Also, you'll occasionally see posts here from Wes Plate (mr. automatic duck) and customer support seems very responsive and useful.

Seems like FCP should work properly but that's just a pet peeve of mine I guess.......

Yup, it ain't cheap. But expecting fcp to play nice with another app (particularly with one that's an avid product) is unlikely.

I've checked out the automaticduck website, and it only seems to be able to export OMF with embeded media. If anybody knows if it can in practice perform the function of exporting session data as OMF (without embeded audio media), please let me know.
If not, it's not a bad idea for somebody to implement. Using OMFs in this manner is standard practice in the film industry.
Sound editors don't have receive gigs of audio data every time there is a change in the edit. All they need is a copy of all the source audio files once, then session data OMFs are sent to them as changes occur (via e-mail cause their small). It's very practical, saves a lot of time and HD space.

Why don't you drop Wes Plate an email and ask him about this. He's probably crazed preparing for NAB and isn't monitoring this board as closely as he usually does. I'm sure his email is on the automatic duck website.

Pet peeve of mine too. I hope they fix it...but then I hope this doesn't drive Wes out of business because I like the guy.

I myself have never done an OMF without media. In my world that is called an AUDIO EDL. Have you tried that? Export an EDL, but only include the audio.
