ADC - DVI - ADC Connection possible?

Hi Everyone,

We put one of our editing machines around to the other room to get it out of the way. In order to make the cable long enough we had to buy an ADC-DVI converter. Run it to a 15' DVI cable, to the mac, then that DVI connection back to an ADC connection on the graphic card. The monitor won't turn on. Is there something plain wrong with connecting things this way around? Any help on the topic would be mucho appreciated since we tried to upgrade to a new card and still experiencing the same problem. Perhaps some kind of incompatibility issue with stepping back and forth between the connections?

The monitors are 1 23" Studio and one 17" Studio both LCDs. They are in proper working order, and if you connect direct into the ADC port without the adapter it works. Radeon X800 Mac edition card under the hood as well.

Yes. as far as I can tell, the only time any problems come up is when the ADC-DVI adapter gets thrown into the equation (although, it does work when I want to send a signal to a regular DVI monitor) its left me completely clueless and apple tech couldn't figure out what was going on. You pretty much described our set up perfectly. Seems to be quite the troubleshoot here.

ADC port on graphics card, to ADC to DVI adapter, to
15' DVI-D or DVI-I cable, to DVI to ADC adapter (the
one with the power supply), to ADC LCD display should
work.

Does the ADC monitor work with the DVI to ADC adapter
if you plug the adapter directly into the DVI port on
the graphics card?

I just got a 23" for my olde G4 yesterday. The old 17" was way past warrenty and doing the Fade To Black thing.

I'm ACD to DVI adapter too. It seems I have to use the Power button on the computer to turn it all on.

I asked the Apple guys about it, and they weren't sure what to do since, after all, it DID turn on. After seeing this post, maybe that's the nature of the adapter. Since was planning to get a new computer in the fall, I hope it works itself out.

ADC has special pins for power control. DVI doesn't have these pins, so you can't turn on a DVI computer using the display's power button. There is nothing the adapter can do about this.

OK, just a couple more questions then. When you say the monitors "won't turn on" do you mean you are getting a black screen or do you mean the monitors literally don't turn on, as in no LED indicator lamp on the front whatsoever? If the former, then I would try shortening the 15' DVI cable to see if perhaps the cable run is too long and the signal isn't getting through. If it is latter and the monitors aren't powering on at all, then I don't get it because I agree with Malcolm that it should work.
