audio syncing

I taped an interview with a sony pd170 on a dv tape set at 60minutes. I had a second camera a consumer sony trv-38. Am I supposed to be able to sync the audio? I wanted to use the audio from the 170 and switch back and forth from camera 1 to camera 2? I seem to be having trouble doing that.
