Hello Xtreme Lacrosse League,

what you are experiencing is normal. The HV20 records HDV which will be transcoded to the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) upon capture. If your machine is not fast enough, your capture speed will not be realtime (I think a Quad with lots of RAM is the minimum).

Do you not hear the sound while capturing, or is there no sound in the already captured video?

let us know

I recently bought the same Canon HV20. I get the exact same issues with no sound. There are no other FireWire Devices Attached.

In addition, I get about 20min of Video Imported and then the iMovie HD app just hangs and I have to forcibly quit the application. I have 1 GB of RAM. No other users are logged on and while this import is occuring it says I have about 250 MB free memory.

Yes--It is as simple as you ou might thinkt---take 4pin Firewire--connect to camera---take 6pin end and plug in MAC. very straight-forward---or one would think--and iMovie does control the camera. you just dont get sound and I had the failure and iMovie hang after 30 min of importing. I have yet to try a new Firewire cable as suggest in the one link. I have used a Pinnnacle Systems Movie DV box in the past to take my old 8mm tapes to the MAC w/o exception (even snagged a American idol episode for the DVR Box) But no luck with this device yet

Very strange. Just took the other one back to the store to exchange it. Same thing with the new one ... not recognized. 2 different firewire cables too, one Apple branded, the other Belkin.

Unfortunately, I discovered that my windows computer only has 4pin firewire, so it's off to the store for another cable before I can try on that one.

I must be doing something wrong, but can't figure out what.
