Apr 14, 2007 1:33 PM in response to mrlndrvrby Grant Bennet-Alder,What make & Model of router are you using? Does the manufacturer claim that it will pass AppleTalk packets? -
Apr 15, 2007 6:41 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby mrlndrvr,It is a Qwest 2wire 2700HG-D wireless router/modem. I will inqure if the router will do that. Meanwhile, would it work if I connected an Airport wireless to the router? -
Apr 15, 2007 10:42 AM in response to mrlndrvrby Grant Bennet-Alder,That router lists Mac requirements in its installation guide online, a good sign that they have considered and tried to accommodate Macs. It seems likely they can pass AppleTalk packets.
When you add a printer, you should be deliberately selecting AppleTalk as the connection method. [Try deleting the old printer and recognizing it anew, just to be sure.]
The printer may respond with its name under other protocols. It contains an HP printer emulator, so it may respond with its name, expecting that you want to print in HP PCL protocol. It may also respond to LPR/LPD, but it is not actually capable of printing that way. -
Apr 25, 2007 10:32 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby mrlndrvr,I figured out a solution. I contacted 2wire. They thought that their router passed the Appletalk packets. I tried everything I could think of to make things work. Nothing. Qwest was NO help either (my ISP). I ended up buying a second wireless router. I installed it behind the 2wire wireless router/DSL modem. I turned off the wireless DHCP on the 2wire and plugged the Laserwriter in to the new wireless router. Bingo, the printer configured right up with no problem. Thanks for the input. -
Apr 25, 2007 12:58 PM in response to mrlndrvrby Grant Bennet-Alder,OK, so 2wire is suspected of NOT passing AppleTalk packets, despite appearances.
What kind of Wireless Router did you get that DOES work? -
Apr 29, 2007 11:21 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby mrlndrvr,I bought a Linksys wt54g something. Works great. I was afraid I woud have to change the 2wire settings. But all the IP numbers were different, so no changes. I just had to turn off the wireless access on the 2wire. -
