Question about Wacom tablet not waking up after sleep

I have a Wacom Intuos2 tablet that I've had for several years. I don't remember when this problem started but for a while now, it will not wake up after I put my Mac to sleep, and wake it. Seems like it started in 10.4.8 (I'm now using 10.4.9)
If I do a restart, or unplug the tablet and plug it back in, it is recognized and I can use it. Otherwise, it doesn't come back on when the Mac wakes up.
I know this is a very hard question to pin an answer down with, but I was wondering if anyone else who uses a tablet has had this problem.
I went on the Wacom site and got the very latest driver for the tablet, but that did not correct the problem.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey Scott,

Yup, I've had that situation.

Here's the deal as far as I've observed.

If I wake the computer via the keyboard=no Wacom.

If I wake the computer via the display=no problem.

To be honest, I've lost track of why this happens for me. My Apple Studio Display lost both of its USB ports. Furthermore, the G4 has also lost one USB port. So I have a Belkin hub plugged into the G4 and the Wacom is plugged into the Belkin.

Additionally, I have to cover myself with aluminum foil while entering data or the OS crashes.

Well, I'm making up the last part. But clearly I'm in the market for my next Mac.

So, since I see you have a G4 as well, it could be some USB problems are playing tricks on you.

Thanks George,

Yeah, I've had my share of USB problems too.
I have learned to live with the Wacom thing.....just wondered if there was anything that could be done about it. I guess not.
If I want to use it, I just do a restart and all is well.
I while back I installed a USB2 card, and had read about the sleep problems with those on a G4. It works but I only use it to transfer iPod data, then I unhook it. I don't leave anything attached because the Mac won't wake up from a sleep. Another thing I live with.
Hahaha......
Oh well..........

Hi George,
I tried it waking the computer up with the monitor, but it didn't work for me. The Wacom still didn't wake up. I read somewhere that the USB Bus goes to sleep on some old G4's and doesn't wake up with the computer (something to that effect).
It's probably something like that that I'm experiencing.
Guess I'll live with it till I get a new Mac.
I'm hoping that will be sometime in 2008.

Take care
