That picture looks like a warped table edge. Not a warped computer case. The lighting is poor so it is hard to tell where the table begins and the computer ends!
My latptop is like that too. And I bought it brand new. I didn't really know what I should do. (I will stop rhyming now). I would love to have it fixed. Let me know what you have done.
I might add, be very careful with the machine so as to not bump it against anything. Some of these bends can come from the slightest door jam or other bump. Put it inside a foam protected case, and shut it down completely before traveling. Make doubly sure that it is shut down by checking if the caps lock key lights up as that's one of the last things to turn off.
My refurbished MBP arrived with the same case defect and I figured so goes it with refurbs until I saw how often the problem was appearing on this site. I was able to remove some 90% of it by careful massaging with a small piece of wood like a tongue depressor. In my case that was better than arguing with a techie about whether Apple would fix it and then waiting for it to be done. By the way, I didn't have any trouble interpreting your original picture. Good luck.
I am sort of surprised that a unit with that kind of defect would be sold as "refurbished." Scratch and dent..sure why not...but I would have expected a refurbished unit to at least look new or very close to it.
I just got my brand new (got it 2 months ago) MacBook Pro back yesterday from being fixed for this very reason. Mine looked EXACTLY like that. Warped out over the "open" button just like your photo.
Apple fixed it free of charge under warranty. They just put a new case bottom on it, looks perfect now.
i'm glad they fix it for you. i have the feeling that apple's gonna say it's my fault somehow, it doesn't bother me so much although it makes opening the lid a bit harder and will decrease the resale value of the machine. i am afraid if i send it for rep they'll scratch my case. how did yours return? any new scratches?
I have the exact issue. It came about a few months ago. I shut it down one night and went to sleep, woke up and this was there, I was pretty upset but I just figured it was normal. But someone mentioned that Apple fixed it for them, so I may try and take it in and see if I can get mine fixed as well. I will admit it is kind of annoying, it's right in view so I see it every time I use/open/close/look at my computer.
I got my MacBook Pro in January and this samething happened to me about a week after I had it. I talked to Apple on the phone and they told me I could bring it in but I would be without my laptop for a week. No thanks.
I have AppleCare and am just going to live with it for now. If something else goes wrong down the road, I'll get it repaired but as it stands now, it really isn't affecting anything else so I have forgotten about it.
Well, I was expecting them to give me some poop too but they didn't. I simply told them it gradually appeared, they inspected it briefly, saw that there were no dings or scuffs from me dropping it or whatever and agreed to fix it.
Took it in last Saturday got it back the next Sunday.
There were absolutely no new scratches or anything on it. I even made a point to ask about that before I left it with them. Haha, good to see others are a paranoid as I am. 🙂 They assured me it would be well protected.
Great work from Apple. Just hope this new bottom case doesn't do it again.
Keep a case number of the call if they were willing to repair it. Unless it is on record with a case number, you may not get the same person twice, unless you can refer to that same case number, and may not be as lucky next time there is something to repair.
