Dreaded 9672 error w/HP printers - is there a solution?

I have a shiny new HP Deskjet D1360 and an Airport Extreme. Like (it seems) everyone else, I cannot add it to my list of printers without getting the -9672 error. I have read all the prior messages here -- none of the suggested workarounds helped: using it as an IP printer w/Socket Direct, reinstalling the drivers, etc. I have the latest software on both the Macbook Pro and the Airport. So:

1. What is the proper gimp-print driver for this printer? The HP web site suggested the Photosmart P1000 driver, but that does not work. Print jobs go through, and show up in the "Completed" section, but the printer does not do anything.

2. Adding it as an IP printer with the gimp P1000 driver, it gives me a "printer is busy" message when trying to print. The printer is not busy.

3. Has anyone succesfully printed to one of these HP inkjets wirelessly through an Airport Extreme? Am I going to be limited to plugging in the USB cable?

Thanks,

Brett Mersereau

I have a new HP D1360 conected vias USB to a new ariport xtreme.
A PC laptop running XP is conected to it via wireless and IT CAN PRINT to the hp printer. MY G5 wich is conected to the airport xtreme via ethernet cannot. I have tried diefferent ways -istalling hpijs drives, unpluggin, etc. creating a new printer in osX....nothing seems to work. The printer ir recognized when adding a new printer, but when it is selected to print with HP Deskjet 4.0.1 it keeps giving me the error: -9672.
.... SO I guess IT IS NOT AN UNCOMPATIBILITY PROBLEM BETWEEN HP AND AIRPORT EXTREME, BUT IN THE MAS OS X DRIVERS (...)

If it's not already on the list of printers that don't appear to work with the Airport Extreme (& possibly intel macs), add the HP Officejet 4215. It's a great little printer on it's own, but adding it the proper way of course gives me the -9672 message, and when I use the P1000 and P1100 Gimp Drivers, the printer will add, but anything I attempt to print disappears into oblivion.

An email to HP tech support gave me two options readily available after about 2 minutes on Google, and also the statement:

"The Officejet 4215s are not an HP supported networkable printer. HP supports this printer "Full Functionality" USB direct connect from the printer to the MAC. Apple supports "Print Only" functionality from the printer to the airport."

However, thanks to this thread I attempted the the HPIJS method, but that was also a no-go. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone else stuck with the same problem.

I've only had my Aiport Extreme for 3 days, and am vastly disappointed.

I have:

1 HP 9300 PC Notebook with Windows Vista
1 Home-made Desktop PC with Windows XP
My new iMac 24" beloved computer.

I wanted to get a better looking and better working network setup, so I bought the Airport Extreme, and LaCie 320GB mini Hard Drive & Hub (yet to be delivered),

First my Western Digital MyBook USB drive (formatted NTFS, and used only for the Pc's) broke the network.

Second, the Netgear Wireless Card in my XP PC couldn't hold the network signal, less than 5 feet away.. too weak to use. I removed the wireless card, and went with the built-in Ethernet card instead.

Third, my HP OfficeJet 6210 just won't work with the Airport Extreme's USB port.

I'm left with some possible plans.

I'd love to just abandon the PCs. But the HP notebook is almost new.

I've been thinking of buying an HP LaserJet, and may as well buy the HP LaserJet 1022N Printer because it's network-ready. I'd just use the Ethernet Port.

I could find a way just to network the two PCs, but share the Internet connection with the iMac?

Darn, this is getting almost as bad as the wonderful, frustrating world of Windows.
