You have posted that Apple has a procedure to note stolen iPods. This is not the case. Please read our Knowledge Base document titled "How to report lost or stolen Apple product?". You can find this article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300066.
Thank you for your concern and your support.
Apple has no procedure to note stolen iPods. There is no foolproof, formalized way to recover gadgets like ipods.
It is the case that you may call 1-800-MYAPPLE and they will ask for the serial number of the ipod. They are available to document your service and product concerns.
It is the case that you may also check into how your ipod was purchased. Some credit card policies offer theft protection for items you purchase. Ipods are replaceable and resold on auctions all the time.
There are companies that track gadget theft. To use it you have to take precautions before the gadget is lost or stolen. Good luck and thanks for your question.
