Battery dies at 50 percent... only after i recalibrated it
Ever since i did my second battery recalibration, my batteries health (through iStat pro) has gone from a 97% to a paltry 64%. Due to this when my charge has around an hour left (40% charge remaining area), the battery literally just dies out on me, going critical almost instantly, running on reserve battery power, then shutting down without warning (5 seconds after the critical message pops up). I did record it with a screen capturing tool, but since the battey shut down, the files are gone.
Is this a problem with the Power management unit, the battery, or the computer itself? Battery life is crucial to me now, as i need to edit on the fly with both protools and final cut in college... and it has already cost me one grade.
MacBook Pro 2.0 Ghz Core Duo 1G RAM,
Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Yes, i get full charge capacity is achieved... i am hosting a full charge iStat pro screen capture so you can read into it.... i am also going to try to attach a screen capture of it while running on battery
I would contact AppleCare and detail the behaviour to them as it appears as through your battery is having cell issues. Hopefully you'll be able to get a replacement battery.
I had similar issues with my MacBook Pro shutting down without warning at about the 70% full mark. As long as you bring your machine to a genius bar and they see it shuts down without warning, you'll get a battery swap.. and of course you're withing the warranty period, including the APP.
I was fortunate enough to have this happen to me today, and I'm happy to say that the new battery has not failed me! I'm doing the calibration process now, so I hope it stays that way.
Hi FezMan88, i would do a reset ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 ) and after that, full calibration (run till it shutdown and keep it unplugged for 4+ hours, after that, recharge till full).
