Jigsaw Puzzle Effect

You find art work that contains the puzzle pieces as separate mattes, create a nested comp for each piece, and bring the nests into a master comp. Quite complicated in FCP. Not so bad in Motion. Piece of cake in After Effects by simply using Shatter's Puzzle presets and time reversing the precomposition or the output movie.

Best advice, since you've not attempted this level of effect creation before, is to hire someone to do it for you , an experienced AE artist. Or you can attempt it in Motion. But you still need the artwork

As David suggested. But it actually is quite easy in Motion. Go over to the motion forum on this site and post over there or do a search for "FUN WITH" you'll get a bunch of great suggestions, but I think the main one you want is fun with shatter.

There's actually an analogue switcher out there that does this effect. You might be going around your elbow to get to you a&*# so to speak, but you could call a few productions houses. Might be quicker and you can pass the cost along to your client.

Wish I could remember the model of that particular switcher...sorry.

Some days that seems the quickest route, Michelle....

However, depending on where my thumb is at the time I might just end up at my nose instead.
