safari icon bounces alot before opening

I have recently ersed my HD and reinstalled everything. I notice though that when I try to open Safari the icon bounces in the dock for probably 20 seconds or so before the program actually opens. I dont remember there ever being this delay before. What could cause it and how to speed the opening of the program up?

Hi Brian

Having erased and reinstalled, have you installed all of the relevant software updates? Possibly you may need to update some Java components. Here is a guide for doing this.

-Only update what you need, though granted security updates are too compelling to pass up (but when you read what they actually apply to, do wonder if that particular benefit is relevant to your setup).
-Run Repair Permissions in the application Disk Utility, which is found in Applications/Utilities.
-Deciding to update something, do a backup, so you can retrieve your position if something goes wrong, post update.
-Let the computer dedicate itself to the update process with all other applications closed. (Apple recommends this)
-Repair Permissions again (after the restart if such is required)

Finally in Safari Preferences, select a Reset Safari, and see if that improves things.
