How can I manage 2 ipods on one Itunes library?

I'm sure this must have been answered elsewhere but I can't find a difinitive answer...

I have an ipod which I want to keep at home and am thinking of buying a Nano for when I'm out. How do you manage the two devices when obviously one carries vastly fewer songs?

I read somewhere that you need two itunes accounts but surely there are loads of people now with a large capacity device plus a smaller one - is it not easier than that having two seperate accounts now?

ibook G4 12", Mac OS X (10.4.5), 3rd Gen ipod 20gb, 5th Gen ipod 30gb

Hi,
You don't need two accounts, I have 3 iPods synced to my iTunes - you can even have the iPods connected at the same time. When the iPod appears in the device list (above your playlists) if you click on it you will get the preferences for that iPod where you can choose what playlists you want added to it. So whereas for an iPod you can choose to sync your entire library, you can choose to sync selected playlists only to a Nano.

Regards

Hi,

Thanks so much for your help. I followed the Method 3 instructions on the 'using 2 ipods with one computer' link and set up the new library for my nano. All went very well.

NOW THO (Eek!) when I option and click to choose the library, although I can see all the artist folders on the external drive where my music is stored, when I click on the old library folder, i get the message 'No iTunes library was found in this folder, please select another'.

Help help help!!

So I searched for 'iTunes library' and found a few of those files with the double quavers itunes logo, saw that a couple of them were created today so guessed they referred to the new Nano library I set up today. So, I chose an older one but when it went through all the set up process, only half my music is there!

I'm guessing this must be an older library (i started a new one at some point a while back I think) but am I going to lose anything or damage anything by going and selecting one of the other ones?
