Determine dpi of Preview pdf documents

Is there a way to determine the dpi of Preview pdf documents? I tried to change the standard 72 dpi of my document using the instructions in this post:

I can tell using the "get info" command that the new pdf file is about 1 MB larger than the original, but I would like to see if I successfully changed it from 72dpi to 300 dpi.

If you have Adobe Acrobat and Pitstop you can determine individual resolution in graphics. Rendering graphics that are 72 DPI and upsampling (if such a word exists) is a waste of time. You can downsample, but once you remove the data it's gone. You cannot simply type 300 DPI and get instant details. The article you refer to is not for recreating PDF's from existing pdf's, but rather creating PDF's from the native application. I suggest you recreate your PDF's using a higher resolution. If you only have a 72 DPI version, ask the supplier to send you a better one. The article is good, but it's much simpler and more effective to purchase Adobe Acrobat and use Distiller to create PDF's rather than let the OS do it.
