Deleting Macintosh HD Alias from Desktop

I screwed up and created an alias of the HD on my desktop. I tried to use Shredit X to delete it, to no avail.

How can I get rid of the alias? It appears (in Windows terms) to be a shortcut. I know that on Windows based units, I could just highlight and delete. That does not appear to be an option here (that I can find).

I have a Mac Pro, with OS X 10.4.9

If you move it to the Trash w/ command + delete and then select "Secure Empty Trash" from the Finder Menu?

Thanks. As for double posting - I did a search prior to writing this up. Obviously I missed a previous post. I will try to do a more thorough search next time.

Unless you mean the regular hard drive icon on the Desktop. In which case you remove it by going to Finder/Preferences/General and untick Hard disks.
