Closing session willl not close....

After advice from reading the forum, I burnt my iDVD project to diskimage..previewed with DVDplayer...worked great....however when trying to burn to DVD-r it always hangs up on closing session....I wait 8 hours over night still hangin...after forced quit I try the DVD and it works in my windows and Mac computers. Does not work in my home DVD player....Is the DVD actually closed? I imagine so since I cannot burn anymore to it....Why does it hang on closing session?....The burner is a sony that came with my 3 year old iMac....I have 6 gig harddrive space (I heard this may be a problem - should have 9 gig or more)...My project is small with only 2 slideshows - one has 99 images, the other 45 images....the burner works fine with CD's...no problems reading CD/DVD's....is the problem tied to iDVD 6 running on OS10.3.9?....Should I just go get an external DVD burner (firewire)...this has to work by June as I am doing a large photo shoot....the project calls for slideshow DVD...so I need this to work....any ideas what I can try doing to stop this hanging up problem?

Thanks so much
Reuben

Welcome Reuben Schulz

Why does it hang on closing session?

First off, i'd recommend you free up more internal HD space. Burning DVD's requires 20-25 GB's. Rarely would I recommend less than 15GB's. And yes it is possible to encounter lead in or lead out issues when burning to DVD-R if this space is simply not available on the system.

Second I'd recommend burning to a disc image and using apple's disc utilities (or Toast) to burn to Verbatim / Maxell DVD-R at 4x or slower (slower is better). Do not use alternate media/s in this case (Memorex and TDK for example have been known to have a slightly higher failure rate and most noticeably when writing the lead in or lead out on these DVD's).

Hope this Helps.

In addition to what SDMacuser said, I use Verbatim DVD-R burned at 4X or slower from a disk image.

It may be that lack of 20GB+ start-up drive space.

the burner works fine with CD's...no problems reading CD/DVD's.

Burning DVDs is much more problematic due to many factors:
