Problem with Burning CD in OS 9.2.2

Hello and thanks in advance

I am having trouble with my G4 running OS 9.2.2 when trying to Burn a data CD with the internal
Pioneer-DVD RW DVR 104 MMC3 ATAPI 0.0
Firmware A216

I have Roxio Toast Lite 5.0.1 and that does work with this drive, BUT when I try to Burn in OS 9.2.2 I get an error
"The Burn operation could not be completed because the device is not supported"

Any input would be appreciated Todd

Todd,

Welcome to discussions.

The DVR-104 was the stock Superdrive in the MDD G4's. And it definitely burns cd's in OS9.2.2. Not sure about Toast Lite 5.0.1 though. Is there no update to this software ?

Toast Lite usually came as a freebie with an external cd burner. And there is an update:

I had no trouble with Toast Titanium 5.0.2 through to 5.2.1 in OS9.2.2 on my G4 with this drive. You have installed the Toast extensions, haven't you ??

OR, are you complaining about the OS9 Disc Burner feature ? OS9.2 Disc Burner and Toast 5 don't go well together. Use one or the other and stick with it. If Toast works for you, stick with it.

Todd,

Toast Titanium up to v5.0.2 worked with the OS9 Disc Burner, well the disc burning capabilities in iTunes anyway. From v5.0.2 to v5.2.1 it conflicted with the Disc Burner Extension (there were a list of extensions to disable to stop them conflicting with each other.

But I can't be sure which incompatibilities in Toast Titanium v5.0.4 (the release after 5.0.2) are in Toast Lite v5.0.1. I'm saying the version numbers might not match up, so we can't say if Toast Lite v5.0.1 causes any issues, when we know Toast Titanium v5.0.1 didn't.

As someone else who used both, I only found the iTunes burner of any use, outside of Toast, so if you don't use that, I'd suggest getting an updated version of Toast Lite, or a second hand version of Toast Titanium v5 of eBay for pennies. Toast really was SO much better. I called it one of the best bits of software I ever bought when I got it.
