"QuickTime and a TIFF decompressor are needed to see this picturer" ?

Hiya,

Bought a new Macbook that arrived two days ago. I downloaded and installed Mac Messenger 6.2, and it worked fine. Then today, when it loaded up, when the little popup on the dock bar appears saying things like "you have 1 new message" and "xxx has logged in", the text appears over an error message that says "QuickTime and a TIFF decompressor are needed to see this picture + messenger".

Similarly when signing in, no picture is displayed like usual - just text.

It was fine yesterday, the only thing I can think I did was remove the Quicktime icon from the docking bar. Quicktime is still installed...

Anyone know what's going on? I've tried reinstalling messenger after wiping its preferences.

Thanks.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I just tried to launch Photo Booth and it says it cannot open because the camera is in use by another application. I have quit MSN messenger and can't see any applications that could be using the photo.

This is getting annoying now 😐 The only new things I have done are installing all the latest updates, and installing new RAM. Could these be the problems?

Thanks for your helpful reply.

I phoned Apple support and after trying various fixes, he decided that it ws the new RAM that I installed (going from 1gb to 2gb). Apparently, OS X sometimes doesn't like it when you change the amount of RAM it has, as there are some hidden variables that still think it's using the old amount. He recommended I reinstalled OS X, as it was a new laptop and I didn't have much data to erase, and this has solved the problem. No more crashes, and incidentally, MSN messenger works fine, as does Photo Booth.

Hopefully if someone else has a similar problem this may help.
