Video chat making "PING" sound...

I have a G4 PowerBook and use the iSight cam for video chats. I've always noticed a strange "pinging" sound when I'm in a video chat. It kind of reminds me of the sounds you hear when you watch submarine movies... strange eh? Has anyone else experienced this? Is it an issue with the iSight mic? Should I be using the built in mic?

It's so loud now that people on the other side say they can hear it too, grrr!

I try video chatting with my work computer (MacBook) and the sound is perfect.

Any suggestions?

PowerBook 15 Alum, 1GHz G4, 1.25 GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.4.4), iPod Mini, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express

Hi

Goto sys prefs/sounds/input and highlight the mic and see if the slide bar is set to high, should be about 3 quarters along(75%).

Thanks Defcom,
I checked and both the internal mic and the iSight mic were at 75% already. Must be something else....?

No speakers other than what is built into my PowerBook... the iSight is on top of the screen.. hmmm.

Don't worry so much about where the slider is in Sound find a spot where you can be heard and don't get (you are on the edge at the moment)

Sliding right will make it full on feedback. I would drop it slightly but not too much as then the other end will not hear you.
