How to keep icWord/icExcel from opening password protected AW files?

I downloaded icWord/icExcel to open MS Office files. I accidentally took AW word processing and spreadsheet files which were password protected over icWord.app and icExcel.app. To my surprise each file was opened and they were both perfectly readable.

How do I keep icWord/icExcel from opening my password protected AW files?

Use the Disk Utility application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create an encrypted disk image, and move the AppleWorks files onto the mounted image. The password protection mechanism built in to AppleWorks doesn't use encryption and can be trivially bypassed to extract text.

I appreciate your suggestion but I am at a loss as to exactly how to execute what you suggested. I went to Disk Utility but couldn't determine the next steps. What detail steps should I take. Thanks again.
