importing mp3 audiobooks (downloaded from internet)

I have some mp3 audiobooks (where the entire book is divided into 3 or more separate mp3 files).

i try dragging them into itunes and they show up in the music folder, changing the genre to audiobook/speech doesn't put them in the audiobook section on the itunes or the ipod.

much of the info i have found searching these forums involve importing them from a existing cd ONLY (i have them burnt to a data cd from way way back - long before i owned an ipod).

I want to put them in itunes from either my data cd or off folders on my hard drive.

if i have to convert them, is there a way to get them in m4b with AAC encoding using iTunes FOR WINDOWS - NOT Mac (info on the forums says itunes likes this for audiobooks).

can anyone help me?

if Itunes cant do it then what about a stand alone converter for PC that can convert mp3 to m4a/m4b with AAC encoding?

Any suggestions on this?

Well I don't know about the requirements for it to appear in the Audiobooks section, seeing as I have none.

iTunes can convert to AAC on windows, it's quite easy actually.

On your iTunes main window, hit ctrl+, (YES; COMMA) that will show preferences (you can also go to the menu, edit-> preferences). Anyway, go to advanced -> importing. Set the encoder to AAC and click OK.

Look for your files in the iTunes library, right click them, and click "convert to AAC"

That will generate new entries in your library, with AAC versions of the same files.
