iPod can't synch with computer

I just received my refurbished 80 GB iPod video today. I plugged it up to my computer and it worked great. Then I unplugged it. I plugged it in again a little later and iTunes completely freezes. When I finally pull the plug, iTunes unfreezes and says that it cannot find the required synch file.
