Can't send email to Italy from USA

Hello,

I have not been able to email my friends in Rome, Italy.
I have the right addresses for each person. I have checked and rechecked a number of times now. All is right.

I am writing these email from my .mac account, thru using Mail. And I use it with a DSL connection from Earthlink.
Every time I send I get Delivery Status Notification.

I do not want to try from another account, as I do not want folks getting all confused as to which is my real email account. I am trying to keep all things simple.

I used to be able to email Italy from my AOL account.

Where would this problem stem from? Mail or Earthlink? I ask here first because I HATE customer service at Earthlink. I don't hate much, but that..... yuppers!

So I thought I'd come to the friendly folks, before I went to the not so friendly ones. Sorry to say, but that has been my experience with them. :0(

Thanks for any help anyone can send my way!!

When I hit the send button, nothing is coming to my friends.

Copy of notification with email info taken out:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

friend@hotmail.com

Reporting-MTA: dns;bay0-mc3-f3.bay0.hotmail.com
Received-From-MTA: dns;smtpout.mac.com
Arrival-Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2007 13:08:34 -0800

Final-Recipient: rfc822;friend@hotmail.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.5.0
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable (-790574797:1382:-2147467259)

Nothing is coming to me. I know they have tired to email me. But both of us are getting nothing at all. No notices, no nada.

And yes, the messages are sitting in as copies in Sent folder. Everything looks as if it's been sent like the many others I send around the USA.

Hopes this helps!

Since the message was successfully sent, the delivery to or acceptance by the recipient's incoming mail server usually falls on the recipient's incoming mail server so it is up to the recipient to get in touch with their email account provider for the account which in this case is Microsoft.

Since you are using Earthlink as your internet service provider and if you are also accessing an email account and SMTP server that is provided by Earthlink with Mail, try selecting/using Earthlink's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account as a test. This non-acceptance by the recipient's incoming mail server might be based on .Mac's SMTP server for some reason.

I have been having problems sending from my Earthlink account. I can get email, but about three Apple updates past, I couldn't send anything out from my Earthlink account. And my past dealing with CS have been fruitless, so I got a second .mac account and call it good.

The only thing next I am willing to try is adding a GMail account. If I can bring that account into Mail, and it works, then all is good. But again, I was trying to keep things simple. And would so much like to keep to my .mac account as the one I email with to my buddies.

Is there any way other than here, to get help with using Mail to do this for me?
Would also be great to find out if anyone else has Earthlink and uses Mail to write to Italy. Hummmm maybe I'll post that ? here. :0)

Again, Thanks for your input!

I also have an Earthlink account but I don't actively use Earthlink as my ISP.

This is from an old dial-up account I've kept in case a high speed wired or wireless internet connection isn't available when traveling which is no longer as common.

The SMTP server settings I use are as follows:

Outgoing Mail Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net

Server Port: 587 - but if you are using Earthlink as your ISP, Port 25 should work.

Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.

Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response

User Name: Your entire Earthlink email address.

Password: your Earthlink account password - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

You can add a Gmail account to Mail that also has an authenticated SMTP server which can be used to send messages with your other accounts - your Earthlink account or your .Mac account so you don't need to send messages from your Gmail account/email address unless you want to but you can use Gmail's authenticated SMTP server only to send messages with your .Mac account which may not resolve the problem either.

As I provided in my previous post, this problem lies with the recipient's incoming mail server which is blocking or not accepting your messages. The recipient needs to take this problem up with the email account provider for the account which in this case is Microslop.
