DVD Burning Errors: 0x03, 0x0c - both errors everytime

The dvd's are not the problem, I have burned them successfully many times. Now I get these errors everytime I try to burn a DVD, usually around 80%:

The Drive Reported An Error:
SENSE KEY = HARDWARE ERROR
SESNSE CODE = 0x03

I press ok, then get this one:

The Drive Reported An Error:
SENSE KEY = MEDIUM ERROR
SENSE CODE = 0x0c
WRITE ERROR

Anyone know whats up with this, if it can be fixed without having to be without my love named powerbook?? Thanks in advance everyone =)

Powerbook G4 17", Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

It is possible that the drive has gotten dirty. If your Mac is under AppleCare ask Apple to fix it by calling 1-800-APLCARE. If it is out of the one year warranty, and you didn't purchase AppleCare, or out of the 3 years of AppleCare, these places are typically cheaper for such repairs:

Just in case though, you may not think it is the media, but low quality media comes in many shapes and sizes. See my tip here on what can cause the problem:

And be sure the media you are getting is high quality according to:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia/

And is only the type that is stored in jewelcases, and nothing is written on the label side of the disk, and no sticky is put on the disk.

In addition to abrody's always good advise, you may be suffering from one other thing.
You say you have used the same media with NO problems many many times. If by chance you were burning Video TS.
You will find if burning a lot, your computer stores all these folders on your hard drive and will virtually not burn. Your explination is almost text book in having full cache 's
Give this a try.
Download , The Freeware Shareware, and run them
Macjanitor.

Cache Out X
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14850
Onyx.
http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html
Run all 3 and then try again.
If my quess is correct your problem will go away.
If so you will know after about every 3rd burn you will want to run these 3 pieces of software and you are good to go again.
This problem is very prevelent in older Optical Drives

I would not empty the system cache with Cache Out or Onyx without first backing up my data, as my FAQ* explains:

http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html

Cache cleaners have been known to cause corrupted cache files in the past, forcing people in the end to erase their machines and start over. Attempts to stop the system from creating corrupted caches once they begin, have proven futile. As the following boot after the working cache is happening, the cache starts corrupting again.
