calibrating PAL CRT monitor and Macbook Pro Screen

Hi,

Can anyone offer any tips on how to calibrate a monitor and the macbook pro screen for PAL colours.

On my monitor you can adjust the brightness, contrast and the colour temp (which is set to 6500). You don't seem the be able to adjust the colour, for example make it black and white, unles you can do that by lowering the colour temp.

You won't be able to make them match. Computer monitors and video monitors have totally different colour and luminance charecteristics - the gamma is different, the colourspace is different, the computer monitor cannot display interlaced, etc. The only thing you can really do is make sure your MacBook's monitor is set to Gamma of 2.2.

Get something like the Spyder2PRO to calibrate your computer monitor.

Get a broadcast quality monitor with blue gun only to calibrate your NTSC/PAL output.

Even so, as Max notes, they probably will not match. That's just the way it is.

With a Matrox MXO and an Apple 23" Cinema Display you can do just that. It has PAL bars, and allows you to adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and hue...AND gives you a BLUE ONLY option for proper balancing.

It will turn your 23" ACD into a broadcast quality monitor. One that is VERY close to an HD CRT...very close.

True, but he did say that he wanted to not only calibrate the MacBook Pro, but another monitor as well...

Can anyone offer any tips on how to calibrate a monitor and the macbook pro screen for PAL colours.

Just offering a suggestion...not knowing what that other monitor was.

The other monitor is a Lacie Electron 19 Blue.

That monitor cannot be setup to view proper PAL colors. Computer monitors cannot be set up for this purpose. The Matrox MXO has some neat electronic engineering that allows it to make the Apple 23" monitor usable for this purpose. But I don't think it will work with the LaCie.

In other words, they're BOTH computer monitors. No good, you won't be able to make them match, and neither will show you a proper PAL picture, sorry. Always use a proper video monitor, at the very least, say, a TV. But of course it would have to be a PAL TV.
