Running classic on Mac OS X Intel Mac

I have a brand new MacBook, running OS 10.4.9.
I have some older programs that need to be ran through classic.
I know that you can't use classic on Intel systems, and that you need SheepShaver to use it. I need a place to download an old version of Mac OS, one that would allow me to use the classic environment. Of course, I want legal solutions only =P I heard that Mac OS 7.x something was legal for download, but where can I find it, and will it allow me to run classic applications?

I rember signing a petition online somewhere to have Apple release OS to the masses for free (since 7.55 is available). Alas, I don't know what ever came of that...

But in regards to your delema, the only way to obtain a classic version that would work is to purchase it. There's a great company here in the bay area called Mac-Pro. And they have a great staff and great prices on a lot of different items. Or there's also the ever classic eBay.

More likely than not, the applications that you have will need at least Mac OS 8.6, but 9.2 is going to be your best bet.

Hope this helps.
