Can't save QT movie traliers anymore with 7.1.6

Now that I have updated to 7.1.6 I can no longer save any of the Apple Movie trailers to view later off line.

Is that an intentional "feature" of 7.1.6 or was it the intention of Apple to prevent the movies from being saved. I purchased QT Pro some time ago.

I appologise if this question has already been asked and answered elsewhere.

Cheers
Chris

I have always had Version 7 and had purchased and entered the Pro key quite some time ago. I guess I implied that without actually saying so.

Prior to the last two QT updates (there have been two) I was able to save the movie trailers via a little icon at the bottom right corner of the screen after the movie had completely downloaded. The restriction on saving the trailer only seems to be with the Apple Movie Trailer site. All other sites that I have visited since the 7.1.6 update that display movies in QT format seem to be OK.

So the problem is perhaps not so much with QT but with a change to the Apple site to prevent users from saving the Movie.

Thanks Ricktoronto. I agree that the HD versions can be saved but the small trailers can't which differs to what was the case prior to updates 7.1.5 and 7.1.6.

Regarding downloading to an iPod, are you kidding me? I would rather watch a reasonable sized trailer on a computer screen than an iPod the size of a matchbox.

I found it useful to save the non HD trailers as they consume less disk space.

Through trial and error, I discovered that error -69 (file not found) disappeared if I just changed the level of the folder in the Save window...typically going up in the hierarchy. Most of the time I just went up one folder; once I went down one folder; once I had to ascend two levels before I was able to save. And that's with OS X 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.6 on my Intel iMac. I'm wondering if this is because I'm saving to my external HD, which I left formatted as FAT32 and did not reformat to HFS. Odd that it's error -69 which shows up every time I couldn't save something for the very first time.

Sounds like the problem you are having is somewhat different to mine.

If I play the HD versions QT is opened up and the movie is played in the QT console. From there I can and save those trailers without any problem whatsoever.

If I select the non HD trailers, they play in a window embedded in the web page. It makes no difference if I use Safari or Mozilla. There are limited controls available on the bottom left and bottom right of that embedded window though now that I have 7.1.6 the save contol (which was a small inverted triangle to the right of the pause-and-step-forward-frame-by-frame control) is no longer available to me. I'm not getting any errors on an attempt to save..... just not able to save at all.

It seems to me that Apple have made a change to the Trailer web page to prevent users from saving the non HD trailers.... but why do that?

RIckToronto. Would you do me a favour please and e-mail me a screen grab of the embedded window of the non HD clip as you see it in your browser. For the sake of the exercise use "No Reservations" and select Trailer 1 from the viewable clips. This is really puzzling me and I can't figure out why you can and I can't.

No, I won't. As you can rely on my word.

You must have seen a QT player embedded in a web page with the playback controls and the small down arrow on the right. That's what I see and if I pull that down, the usual save as source or QT movie are available.

The point being it is not an Apple conspiracy to deny saving rights to users, so that means you have to diagnose your issue. And it is not 7.1.6 either, with PPC or Intel. So there is some ruling out done for you.

This may disappoint you as well, they do just fine as embedded players in Firefox as well. Save is available there as well. SD and HD.

For the Hot Fuzz HD clips they even tell you the size so I suspect they are expecting you to download it. The HD clips open a new player so they are not the streaming type but the preloading type.
