I have Power Mac G4, once I install my airport extreme card and turn on my computer, I have no screen. It remains black. I can not operate key board or follow installation instructions from the screen. I bought the card from apple so I know it is the right card.
The only G4 Desktop that AirPort Extreme ( 802.11g mini-PCI ) cards are compatable with are the MDD FireWire 800 Macs. All other G4 desktops ( Sawtooth, GE, DA, QS, MDD 2002, MDD 2003 ) use the original AirPort card ( 802.11b PCMCIA )
I'm sorry I don't recognize some of the G4 model numbers in your post. I have a G4 AGP Graphics and am trying to find out which airport card I need.
The backstory is this: I bought an Airport Extreme Card (part # M8881LL/A) for my G5 Quad, only to find out that it doesn't work on the G5 Quad. If you didn't have Airport installed at time of purchase, your only option is to have Apple install a combined bluetooth/airport card for you. At least, that's what I learned over at the Airport discussion. So I'm wondering about installing the card in my old G4 instead.
I found the info at the apple website for installing an airport card in the G4 AGP Graphics, but it doesn't list the part number.
G5 Quad 2.5GHz Mac OS X (10.4.2) dial-up internet connection
I have the original Original- 802.11b, 12 Mbps card in my G4 Dual 500, it will see my new Airport Extreme base station but will not connect to it, always an error. There is not an option for WPA Personal, what do I need to do to get this to work? I hve run all the updates, any ideas? Do I need to configure my AP a different way? My AP is set for A/B/G, so I'm not sure what else to do.
ThanX!
