Need to retrieve data from IBM Travelstar Hard drive from G3 Powerbook

The only problem is the G3 I had is broken, i now have a Macbook Pro Intel and need to retrieve the data from the old Hard drive.

I have removed the drive from the G3 but is it possible to connect it to my Macbook pro?

I'm considering buying an old G3 and fitting it to that then using target mode to retrieve the files.

Mac Book Pro 17" Intel Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You can buy one of the IDE to USB adapters for bare drives for just a few dollars.

The most cost-effective solutions may be one of the external drive adapters such as the one from Newer Tech.

Just FYI, G3s do not support target disk mode. You'd have to have an AGP G4 or later.

I had a G3 and that supported target disc mode ok, i used it a few times for file swapping from my G3 to my friends G4.

Dave Sawyer-

I think you meant to say the G3 does not support FireWire Target Disk Mode. It may support SCSI Target disk mode, but that is no help when the other Mac (MacBook Pro) has no SCSI port.

I'd forgotten about HD Target Mode (as it would be called in the PB G3s). As you say, though, since the MacBook Pro doesn't have SCSI, it would require the OP to purchase another system, and I think the external drive adapter would be less expensive and a lot less hassle.
