WMV files in powerpoint on a mac

New to macs
How can I load WMV files into a powerpoint presentation. My new IMAC won't let me put them into a presentation to be played later on a PC

from the powerpoint menu>insert>slides from file>select all document>check select slide to insert>select your slide>press insert.

What didn't work and what's happened?
Can you select any file? are they grey out?
Powerpoint doesn't allow you to select or insert a .wmv file?
have you got the WindowMediaPlayer application installed on your Mac?

Do you have Flip4mac installed? OSX and Quicktime cannot play them without this component. You do not need and should not have the crummy, dated, non working MS WMP application on your mac at all, despite the misguided advice.
