What's in the 1.1.3 iPod nano software?

I just got a note today saying the my nano can be upgraded to v. 1.1.3?

I can't find any documentation about what this release does, even the boilerplate "improves stability and fixes various bugs."

Does anyone know where I can get that info?

The only thing I can find so far is increased stability with podcasts. I have had an issue where if I update my podcasts undock and go into one of those podcasts to listen to them, the Nano would lock up and I would have to reboot. That doesn't appear to be happening anymore but I will know for sure in a week since it happens quite often.

Other than that, I didn't see any changes at all. I really wish they would say what is in these updates.

I first said no to firmware, then the next time I said OK to stop the nagging. Now its stuck at "Please Wait Very Low Battery". If I remove it it just fades from that screen. I can get it into daigs when I plug it in to USB but as soon as i reset it goes back to the "Please Wait Very Low Battery". Since my battery was fine before the update, the charge would last for hours and I never had any other problems with the 1st gen 4gig nano, I suspect that the firmware corrupted when it tried to update. I don't think there is anything I can do to. Can apple fix the firmware if it is corrupt? It won't even mount on Mac or PC due to it. I think the update cost me the nano. Any suggestions?

One thing I have noticed with the 1.1.3 firmware is that now you can make the backlight show while the iPod is connected to the computer. Not something I personally care about but I recall threads in the past where others were bothered by this not being possible. I can only assume this is due to the new firmware as I wasn't able to make this happen before.

Hi TimeZone750,

As far as I know, there are no new changes that the new 1.1.3 firmware for Second Gen Nanos has added.

For example, I believe it was the 1.2 firmware for First Generation Nanos added support for the Nike + Sport kit.

That's not the kind of thing that the 1.1.3 firmware does, since it is simply for those unnamed "bug fixes".

Usually, if you have a second digit firmware update (for example, "1. 2"), there is a bigger change than just bug fixes. Compatibility to some sort of thing, like games from the iTunes Store with Fifth Generation iPods, can be added with this kind of update.

If you have a third digit firmware update (for example, "1.1. 3"), it's typically just for fixing stability issues, and doesn't really add anything new.

For me, all of the firmware updates for my Nanos didn't seem to really change their behavior in a good or bad way.

Recently, however, I'm not sure if the 1.1.3 update directly related to this, but after updating Natalie, I noticed that she had a problem where, when "Now Playing", every song on the full-sized album art screen had the same artwork as one song.

It wasn't a really annoying issue, since the album artwork was displayed correctly on other screens like the main Now Playing details of Artist, Album, and Song.

After attempting things such as resets, resyncs, etc., a simple restore fixed the issue.

Still, it's really quite unlikely that you'll run into an issue that the 1.1.3 firmware introduces that some of the general troubleshooting procedures don't fix. (Like a restore, for example).
