Tablet, note taking + drawing

Hey, I'm a chem student and I saw someone on a PC connect a Waicom tablet and use some program (evernote??) and they were pretty much using their computer as a note pad and making physical notes digital.. this would be really helpful especially with drawing reactions and diagrams. I want to do this on my mac! i know mac os x has built in tablet drivers but Im looking for information on how to be able to let me draw reactions.. I'm looking for recommended programs! I have parallels but would rather not use it, so i can maximize my battery life. thanks!

I don't have access to a USB tablet right now to test this, so I'm going off memory here, so take with a grain of salt...

Mac OS X includes a technology called Inkwell, which allows you to use a tablet, or touchscreen if you are lucky enough, to write anywhere, into any application (it might only be Cocoa Apps).

This is built in and requires no extra software. To see some information about it, open the help viewer on your Mac, and type 'Ink' into the search field. One of the first hits will be 'writing text with your graphics tablet.'

Actually... the ModBooks are very highly rated. Their design and engineering are top notch... but then again, all that quality doesn't come cheap.... with the least expensive being about $2,300. They are also not convertible between tablet and regular notebook modes. Part of the mod involves removing the keyboard. I guess you could always get an external USB keyboard for just a few bucks. If you need a Mac tablet, the ModBooks are pretty much the only choice.

I'm not sure how it would work for the Ink function and pasting into Word or some other document for taking notes.

My wife often uses Wacom tablets for creating renderings of costumes for theatre shows we work on. They work very well, and any of the current models will likely do what you need to do. If you are very into drawing than I would skip the graphire line and go to at least the Intuos line.
