Airport does not connect

Hi all,
I'm having problems with my ibook connecting to my wireless network. It used to connect without problem but then the airport started to intermittently lose the signal. Now I can't get the airport to find the signal at all.

I've run the hardware tester and the card passed.

Does anyone know how to diagnose the problem? Can it be software?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mick

Hi, Mick. Welcome to Apple Discussions.

This sounds like what happened to mine when the AirPort card went bad.

I would suggest if you know someone else with an original AirPort card to try swapping cards with them. My husband swapped our AirPort cards, and that's how we determined that my card had gone bad.

It would be a shame to buy another card and then find that it is the slot or some other problem.

Although AirPort reception is not specifically stated as a problem cured by resetting the PMU, you could try that and see if it helps.

You've probably already done this, but you could check your network settings in System Preferences to make sure everything is all right there.

Do other computers work with your modem and/or wireless equipment? Have you called your ISP for assistance with troubleshooting your connection?

Hi Ronda,
I was afraid of that. Over the last few days, I've taken the card out of couple of times and reinstalled it to see if that would make a difference but it was to no avail. Earlier in the week, the card worked in intermittently. Now, it does not seem to work at all.

Also tried resetting the PMU as you suggested and that didn't work either.

I have not called my ISP because other computers connect to the Internet via the wireless connection. So, the problem seems to be with the iBook.

Thanks so much for your assistance.

People were reporting this behavior occurring after installing Security Update 2007-4.

patrick187_ has posted that the following procedure restored AirPort functionality upon waking from sleep:

1. Open Finder
2. Click 'Go' on the top menu
3. Click 'Go to'
4. enter "/System/Library/Extensions/"
5. Scroll down until you can see:

"AppleAirport2.kext"
"AppleAirport.kext"

6. Move "AppleAirport2.kext" file to the desktop.

This leaves you with "AppleAirport.kext" - the more recent file in the Extensions folder)

7. Restart

I hope this helps.
