installing ttf fonts/ font book

hi:

i downloaded fonts and installed them with font book, couldn't get them to open....copied them into 'computer' file, still nothing...restarted - nothing....
copied them into classic os (which is what i'm still having to use for my photoshop, illustrator, etc.) and they show up in the file, but not in the applications.

is this because classic can't read/accept 'ttf fonts'? if the case, is there a way to convert them or bring them into programs another way?

thanks!

Hi artsenthusiast,

copied them into 'computer' file

Sorry, but that's really vague. OS X can read and use Windows True Type fonts (.ttf). Normally, you would just place them in the /Library/Fonts/ folder, or the Fonts folder in your user account. They'll be available immediately to OS X, but not Classic.

copied them into classic os...and they show up in the file

Again, "in the file" doesn't make much sense. I assume you simply mean you see them listed in the folder you placed them in?

Regardless, Classic cannot, and never has been able to read .ttf fonts. There is a very easy way to convert them, though. Download TT Converter. Drag and drop the .ttf fonts you want to use in Classic onto the application (TT Converter is an OS 9/Classic app). It will very quickly create copies of the fonts as a standard OS 9 suitcase style TrueType font. Place those converted fonts into the OS 9 Fonts folder.

sorry...i should be more specific....in the 'font book' window that popped up when i clicked 'install fonts' under the left 'collection' column you have options (collections) to place fonts in - someone suggested i try it. i found out they are window ttfs, so the dafontifier program couldn't convert for me.

thanks for the info...i'll try the converter you suggest.
