Buying a used G4 iBook

Anyone! I'm looking at buying my first Mac, and I'm focused on a 2yr old iBook G4 off my local craigslist... can anyone post some feedback about this model, it comes with the microsoft programs loaded (which is important for my work) and the entire adobe suite. what should i look for when i check it out?

Most appreciative!

if you are looking to a buy a used mac, then that is great. compare the pricing to a refurbished one, or a brand new one.

you can get a brand new macbook for $1,099.00
which is going to be much faster than an ibook.

you can get a refurbished macbook for $949.00
which is going to be much faster than an ibook.

now, granted, this new unit will not have the software you are looking for, but unless the person you are buying it from gives you the original discs, then you have illegal copies. which is a no-no. microsoft and adobe both track their software. pirating is not a good idea. if you are planning to do business with that software, then that is a BIG no-no.

just fyi. refurbished macs are eligible for the standard 1 year warranty, and you have the option of extending it to 3yrs. not bad huh?

There are repair companies who specialize in Apple portable computers,
who are also certified and authorized to repair new ones as well as used;
these companies advertise online and in some specialty magazines. Of
these, some have an inventory of repaired and guarenteed machines for
resale; some are older slower processor models and usually do not in-
clude system install/restore discs. Some have a sample system installed.

To have the official Hardware Test disc, Install/Restore discs, and some
of the literature is a good thing; even if you end up using a newer OS.

These computers are generally not guaranteed by Apple; instead
by the company who fixes and resells them, if not bought direct
from Apple. A company I mention here* is one of these; I have
had good service from them and they do ship overseas.

Some based in the US will not ship to other countries; and some will. Some
models of portable Apple computers will vary in cost and availability, and
repaired used computers sold by other parties than Apple would have the
reseller's own "in shop" rules, regulations and conditions or terms of sale;
and a limited guarantee of serviceability, computers sold through "non-
Apple" suppliers that have been said to be "refurbished" may not have the
same level of complete repair and testing done to them, as the ones Apple sells
through the official Apple web site. They are not in the same league.

For affordable repaired and guaranteed used computers you can check with
companies such as * wegenermedia.com in South Carolina USA, as they say
they can ship to many countries. Other online resellers have their own policies
and these are subject to change, so email them to be sure what they have and
if they can ship to you, under what conditions they will do so.

Some international Apple store pages didn't have a "certified refurbished"
online store for selling their products; so you may not see such a page
in a regional web site with the official Apple refurbs listed. If your regional
site does have these, that's good; and would represent a great value.

There had been no portable Apple computers in the price range you're
looking, in the Apple Store's certified refurbished pages that I had seen.

Best of luck in this matter!
