I have an application that cannot be deleted because it is in use, and I cannot open it to quit because it is damaged. It does not appeatr when I try a force quit. Any ideas? thanks!

    Boot up from a CD & delete the app.

    You can try opening terminal, typing top, and press return. If the app has some process running, it will show in the resulting list. The first column is labeled PID. You can then press control-z, will will end the top command, and then type kill pid# (where pid# is the number listed under pid) and press return to end anything that application is doing.
