Safari could not connect to the server "blah blah blah.com"

Safari cannot see ANY website. I get the error that says "Safari can't open the page "http://www.google.com: because it could not connect to the server "www.google.com".

The strange thing is that I can ping google.com through terminal. iTunes cannot see the store, iChat & mail seem to work just fine. So it is something to do with html (just a guess). Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

hi there
one quick suggestion which will need only 5 minutes of your time if you have all your network settings
trash /library/systemconfiguration (make sure system preferences is not open at that time)
restart mac
create new location from network preferences
an then test-it should work fine or as an alternative you can get into System Preferences, clicked on Network, and then clicked on Proxies. In the box "Web Proxy (HTTP)" if it is selected, deselected it and clicked "Apply Now"
and then test
