Q: Lombard hinge

Is there a special tool I can buy to tighten the Lombard G3 PowerBook display hinge?

There is no adjustment in PowerBook hinges. Their resistance to the display drooping to the 180-degree open position is built in when the hinge is manufactured.

Through trauma, they have been known to break, and there is a brisk trade in used but working hinges for PowerBook models that are still considered useful. Lombard hinges and entire displays are traded on eBay and sold through various used PowerBook parts dealers.

These repairs typically require removing the top of the computer containing the display, partially disassembling it, replacing the hinge on the display module, and reassembling it. ScrewDrivers and Torx drivers are the most complex tools used, but there can be many, many fasteners involved. Use of a grounding strap is strongly recommended. Several services will perform this replacement for you. They are quick but NOT cheap.

Thank you for the information. I will have to reconsider what to do with the Lombard. But it is a great laptop.Thanks.
