LG GSA-E10L Super Multi DVD Rewriter for iMac???

I need to install a newer version of Mac OS on the old iMac I have to use. The problem is that my iMac is not equipped with DVD drive, and the instalation software is on DVD disk.

A friend of mine has offered to lend me an external DVD drive: LG GSA-E10L Super Multi DVD Rewriter, but it seems to be (surprise, surprise!) not compatible with Mac computers.

Is there any way I can still use it?

Any help will be appreciated.

Abadon, Welcome to the discussion area!

Even if you got it to work somehow with your iMac you can't use it to install OS X. You can not boot from an external USB drive.

You need an external FireWire drive if you want to use it to boot your iMac.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Here are the possible solutions for you to achieve installing the latest & greatest OS X on this 5 year old iMac:

Media Exchange Programme (swap your DVD for CDs).
Buy Tiger on CDs (link).
Purchase an External Firewire DVD±RW DL Burner (link).

The iMac G4 15" 700MHz CD-RW only shipped with 128Mb RAM. 256Mb is the bear minimum for OS X 10.4 so you should look at installing a 512Mb SODIMM for a 640MB total.
