Unfortunately no. That model (3rd generation iPod) was the first iPod to use the Dock connector which gave USB syncing ability to the iPod. However the two USB power pins were not connected, so when a Windows users synced with USB they also had to connect the Firewire side of the "Y" or "V" cable to the charger supplied with those iPods.
So what you need is a wall charger that gives you a Firewire connector. Apple sells one and I am sure places like Griffin Technology and the like probably have their own versions.

The dock connector Patrick referred to is not the dock in which the iPod sits whilst it's either charging or syncing. It's the connector at the bottom of your iPod.

There is no way to do what you are asking. The simplest and easy thing to do is to buy a firewire wall charger.

However, this does bring up another issue. When you next connect the iPod to your computer to sync it with new data via a USB port, it's not going to get any power to it during this process. Transferring data to an iPod puts a huge drain on the iPod battery and it's vital that it receives power whilst doing so, otherwise you will find that the iPod runs out of power mid transfer. Not an ideal situation.

Maybe time to get the firewire port on your computer fixed?
